Brigade

Raetihi volunteer fire brigade were kept busy at the beginning of last week. On Monday 3 August at 3 pm they were called to an incident in Ward Street, Raetihi, involving a leaking L.P.G. cylinder which had fallen from a vehicle. They kept the area safe until the gas had evaporated. On Tuesday 4 August at about 1.30 am they were called to Middle Road, Raetihi, to rescue a trapped youth. Three youths and a dog had gone into the bush, and the dog had become lost. One of the youths went

down a 20-metre bluff in search of the dog and got trapped. Firefighters used abseiling equipment to rescue the young man, who was cold but unhurt. The dog had been found safe and well earlier. Wednesday 5 August at 9.45am. the brigade were called to Millbank's cutting, south of Horopito, to assist the police at the scene of an accident involving two army buses and two cars. The occupants of the vehicles were shaken but otherwise unhurt.
