Badminton

Last Monday evening Taihape played Ohakune in a social night of badminton. A large number of players, totalling 37, kept the game supervisors Jos and Marie Cranston busy all evening. The majority of games were made up of a mixture of the two clubs. However some serious games were played with Ohakune proving to be the stronger side on the night. The president of the Ohakune club, Elayne Weller, who organised the visit, was very pleased with the turn-out and has arranged several more events to be held before the end of the season. Ohakune Badminton Club once again converged on Wanganui on Sunday 9 August. Wanganui held the Under 1 2, Under 1 4, Under 1 6 and Under 18's tournament. There were teams from Ohakune, Wanganui, Waiouru, Turangi and Marton in what proved to be close i

games, a lot of the games going to setting. Ohakune members who took part were: Andre Moore, Ashantha Perera, Megan Lind, Cathy-Anne Cranston, Sarah Lind, Amy Cranston, Donna Cranston, Eileen Voon and Stacy Cranston Results for Ohakune members: Under 12; Sarah Lind runner up singles champion; Amy Cranston singles plate winner. Under 14; Donna Cranston singles champion, Eileen Voon singles plate winner; Stacy Cranston men's singles champion; Donna and Eileen doubles runner-up; Donna and Stacy combines runnerup, Stacy and Darrel doubles champion. Donna Cranston, Stacy Cranston, Eileen Voon and Sarah Lind were asked if next year, they would consider trying out in the trials, for a Badminton representative team in Wanganui.
