Church runs rally

By Julie Richardson About 40 adults and children took part in a car rally from Ohakune to Waiouru last week. The family outing was organised by the Apostolic Church Home group in Waiouru, who invited groups from Ohakune and Raetihi Apostolic xhurches to join in the day. Other

church groups were also invited. One of the organisers, Sue Kumeroa of Waiouru, said participants were invited to dress up and to decorate their cars. Sponsorship of cars was suggested. This could be for fun or by real businesses. Any funds from sponsors were put towards the cost for lunch

and prizes. Prizes were awarded by Ray Isaac of Waiouru, during the lunch held in the Waiouru Community Centre after the rally. Categories included best dressed crew, the crew who got lost the most, the best navigator, and the best decorated car. Each crew received a prize of a meal pack, which they were required to share with a neighbour at home. The route followed Dreadnought Road to Rangataua, past Karioi Railway Station, to the weigh-bridge at Winstone Pulp Industries where the cars were weighed. The last stages of the rally were State Highway 49 to Waiouru, andi into the housing area via the Queen Elizabeth n Army Memorial Museum. Mrs Kumeroa said children were in every car and encouraged to be navagators, and to observe and watch for signs along the way.
