Confident contractor
Main contractors Water Treatment Systems Specialists commended the council on their approach to the Ohakune water project. General Manager Clive Mulgrew said the RDC gave them the opportunity to take complete control of the project and come up with a scheme that they felt would do the job. This was against the norm, where the contractor is dictated to by consultants about whibh equipment is to be used
for example, and "you end up with a scheme that no one is happy with". The council called for tenders on the basis of providing water of a certain quality, Using UV disinfection, rather than for straight building. In this way the contractor is bound to make the system work rather than be bound to build the plant in a certain way. Contractor From page 10 one that will be watched with interest by people from around the world, every component was tried and true. Using the technology, his company has set up treatment systems for such places as blood treatment and dialysis laboratories in Auckland. Clive Mulgrew knew the supply and its problems fairly well by the time they came to start building. He had tendered five times for the job over the years! Before tendering, the company set up a fully operational pilot plant to prove that it would work.
