A very special red-let-ter day for one Raetihi family is 2 August, with several celebrations marked. Daniel Alabaster and Velma Evans were married at the Raetihi Presbyterian Church in Raetihi on 2 August 1952; Velma's mother, Mrs Mary Evans, turned 96 on 2 August this year; and a great grandchild for Mrs Evans was born on that day also. A son was born to Alfred and Debbie Alabaster. To celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary family and friends of Daniel and Velma arranged a surprise party at the Waimarino Club hall. Fifty guests, including their groomsman Ken Robb, attended the celebration.
