Ski intro rained on

Ruapehu's dismal weather last week disappointed thousands of aspiring new skiers booked into the Hillary Commission's Let's Go Skiing programme The programme was aimed at first-time skiers and ran from 25 July to 2 August. The $15 package included ski

hire and beginner lift pass for one day and included a ski lesson. Half of the 8000 people registered nationwide for the programme were booked to ski at Whakapapa. Marketing manager Scott Lee said the programme had been very successful.

"Fifty two per cent of people who did the programme in 1990 skied at least three days in 1991," he said. People who missed out last week because of the bad weather can reschedule their bookings but no refunds will be given.
