Train entertains 100s

Saturday's Ruapehu Bulletin Flyer tumed out to be a success, both for passengers and organisers - Main Trunk Rail Ohakune (MTRO). The local railway enthusiasts group decided to make use of the train for the excursion after the Auckland Railway Enthusiasts Society (ARES) planned their own trip down to the

Ruapehu district. MTRO's aim in running the trip was to provide a day out for people, and to break even on costs. With 375 people taking the trip, they managed to do better than that and hopefully have also raised some money towards the Ohakune Junction turntable. "We would like to thank everyone who went on the excursion and hope that they en-

joyed the trip as much as we did," said MTRO president Bob Norling. The ARES train brought over 400 people into the area, dropping some off at National Park for a trip to the Chateau and Whakapapa, some to Horopito Motors, some to Ohakune for skiing at Turoa Ski Resort, and some to Waiouru for a visit to the QE H Army Memorial Museum.
