Two arrested for breaking bail conditions
• Police arrested two people for breaches of bail conditions on Friday night. A 21-year old Ohakune man was arrested for breaching his bail conditions when he was found drinking in a local hotel. The man ran off while a police officer was talking to him and the policeman gave chase. A 16-year old youth pushed the policeman over to stop the chase. The youth was arrested and charged with assaulting a policeman, assisting an escape and also breach of his own bail conditions. The 21-year old was arrested on Saturday night and charged with breach of bail and escaping lawful arrest. He was remanded in custody to appear in Wanganui today. • Thieves are now regularly stealing ski roof racks off cars, the Waimarino police report. Tuesday night last week a $275 roof rack was removed from a Powderkeg staff member's car, parked in the staff parking area. Police recommend people remove non-lockable racks and put them in a secure place. • A rock was thrown through a window at Raetihi's Starline Service Station. Thieves then stole tobacco and cigarettes. • A chalet burglary was discovered on Friday at Tawa Street, Turoa Village. Thieves stole a portable colour TV, a microwave oven, and skis, worth a total of $1500. • Police have been advised of a number of thefts of personalized car number plates from the area. On Friday night - Saturday morning "J Beam 1" was stolen and previously "Turoa 1" was stolen.
