Bridge

It was a topsy-turvy night at bridge on Wednesday 22 July. The night started with five tables playing four boards each and ended with four tables playing five boards each. The placings changed around a lot in the northsouth direction. After handicapping Elaine Goldfinch and Tani Blackburn moved from third to first place with 52.1% and Betty Hammond and Rita Kaiwhare moved from first to second place with a readjusted score of 48.8%. Ron Martin and Heather Cranston finished in third place with 48.27% after holding second place bef ore handicapping. There were no position changes in the east-west direction which was resoundingly won by John Eades and Colin Cox with 70%. Second place went to Gordon and Jenny Mottram with 53.9%. Jenny and Gordon also scored the highest possible score in bridge by bidding and successfully playing 7NT re-doubled. Third place with a score of 45.58% went to Tephany Bennett and Sarah Hamlin.
