Exercise in water
BY JULIE RICHARDSON A weekly Aquarobics class is now being run at the Burns Pool, Waiouru Army Camp. At present there are usually between 5 and 10 'regulars' who come every Thursday at 5pm and a second class may open if demand picks up. Aquarobics is a sport similar to aerobics, but uses water to provide resistance and weight training. There are exercises and music just as in aerobics, but the instructor, Cecilia Roke, says that working in a pool means the danger of impact injury and muscle
strain is lessened. Aquarobics proyides over-all body exercise and is ideal for beginners as well as physically fit people. Men as well as women may join the class. It is not essential to be able to swim. Cost is $5 per session although a term price is being considered. Cecilia Roke also runs TWO aquarobics classes in Ohakune. She completed instructors training in Australia and Britain and intends to study further aquafitness courses in Auckland and Palmerston North.
