Hospital staff for weekend district nursing
District nursing services on weekends will be provided on-call in future, following a decision by the health board management to scrap the previous service. Previously the district nurse was rostered to work four hours each day of each weekend. Waimarino Health Centre manager Margaret Martin said they found the four-hour weekend service was not needed. District nursing services will still be available to the community
on demand by calling the health centre on the weekend, she said. Hospital staff will provide the weekend service while the district nurse will continue to serve patients mid-week. "The service will still be there in the weekend - it will just be provided in a different way," said Mrs Martin. "Patients utilising the service will not rtotice any difference in the care provided as a result of the change," said assistant general manager community health, Janice Wenn.
