Kindergarten concerns
Kindergarten teachers from Waiouru, Ohakune and T aihape Kindergartens held a paid union meeting in Waiouru on Wednesday 15 July. The Kindergarten Teachers' National Collective Employment Contract expires on 31 July and the meeting was held to discuss the lack of progress with the negotiations and to decide what action they want to take to support their negotiations. The State Services Commission wants to pare-down Kindergarten teachers' existing conditions and provide a salary scale that is open to cost cutting, according to the union. Teachers are concerned about the quality of education currently available in the Kindergarten sector and the effect that these proposals by the SSC will have on early childhood education.
