A group of representatives of the Maungarongo Marae are to travel to Sydney next week for a special opening ceremony of a Maori art and artifacts exhibition. The exhibition is called Whatu Aho Rua, "A weaving together of traditional and contemporary pieces of Taonga" and includes ancient and modern art

and artifacts from the Whanganui River peoples. The opening will include a dawn ceremony with karakea performed by kaumatua from around the Whanganui River area, at the Ivan Dougherty Art Gallery. Before Sydney, the exhibition was set up in Adelaide from March to June, then in Canberra until the end of July.
