Health group re-forms
A new Waiouru Community Health Watch Committee was formed at the public meeting on 30 June. Approximately 25 Waiouru residents attended to hear about the role of Community
Health (Watch) Committees and to discuss the appointment of a new committee. Manawatu- Wanganui Area Health Board Commissioner Maurice Sexton told the meeting that Community Health
(Watch) Committees provided a vital link betWeen the Board and the community, particularly following the demise of the elected/appointed Board. Kerry Hines, Regional Co-ordinator CH(W)Cs, out-lined some of the activities of the committees in the area. She said that the former Waiouru committees had displayed a creative and innovative approach to improving health and wellness in their community. Waiouru had a CHWC from mid-1986 until the
beginning of this year when the committee effectively went into recess because of a lack of members. The 17 members of the new committee are: Jan Arthur, Sandra Barford, Chris Connell, Rita Goulding, Deb Greeve, Scott Kerr, Dale Kimber, Denise Lenihan, Lynne McLellan, Greg Russell, Gail Sefton, Debbie Stone, Pauline Truscott, Barney Tulisi, Libby Tuthill, Maggie Voight, Nichola Whitlow. The committee's first meeting will be held on Tuesday 28 July.
