Country Market Day
Raetihi people could be in luck this Saturday with an allday celebration to welcome Lotto. The Lotto and Country Market Day starts 9am, with a day-long programme of activities, and ends with a cabaret in the evening.
McLean's Bookshop is to be the new Raetihi Lotto agency. Proprietor Neil McLean said it was hoped the agency would be up and running by Saturday. (see separate story). They are now waiting on
the Lotto people to come and install the equipment, he said. Ski FM will be broadcasting from the market day for most of the morning, telling people when and where things are happening. Prizes up for grabs

include a trip to Rotorua with a visit to the Agrodome, a bungy jump and a Sky Ride. The Pony Club, riding their horses and wearing western gear will lead a truck parade into town at about 10am. Displays of vintage
cars, an army display, top table tennis, and deer stalkers and pig hunters clubs will be there to view. The Raetihi Volunteer Fire Brigade will cut up a car to show off their new rescue cutters. As well as many stalls
from community organisations and sports clubs, there will be an auction, quick fire raffles, and a raffle for a twonight trip for two to Taupo. Hungry people will be well catered for with sausage sizzles, Chinese food at KCs, a Hangi (with a lucky ticket number). At the cabaret at the Ruapehu Hotel a special steak dinner is on the menu, also with a lucky ticket number. The country band from Hamilton - "Country Boyz" will play through the day, with guest Kenny Hughes, and into the evening at the cabaret, Luck Free movie! Peter Pan Showing at the Raetihi Cosmopolitan Club at 1.30pm.
features here too, with a lucky ticket number for the trip to Rotorua. Other activities include the Lions' mini motor bikes, free movies for the kids (time to be advised), a pig on a spit, lucky shopper number, and heaps
of competitions, including for crayfish, knitted peggy squares, vegetable sculpture , and fancy dress. And last but not least, there will be a performance of Maori action songs etc, from Raetihi School pupils.
