Waiouru indoor bowls
BYJANSAVELL The Waiouru Indoor Bowling Club successfully defended the Boolaghty Trophy against Mangaweka Indoor Bowling Club last week. This follows a busy month for the club. Recently a team competed at the National Championships. Waiouru Club members Geoff Fox, Robin Porter, Jacque Porter and Grant Dickinson from Mangaweka qualified, making the last 64 of the 440 teams entered. They also qualified in their pairs combinations and Robin, Jacque and Grant qualified in the singles competition.
Treasurer of the club, Robin Porter, is an experienced competitor, with a personal best of third equal at the New Zealand Champion of Champions Competition. Both Geoff and Robin are representatives for the Ngauruhoe region which stretches from Raetihi to Mangaweka. "We are a small club but we are very successful" said Robin Porter. Low numbers mean maximum involvement for participants and new members are warmly welcomed to the Tuesday night sessions at the Waiouru Primary School Hall.
