Festival plans 'fermenting'

It shouldn't shock people to learn that carrots feature highly in next week's Carrot Festival, which is being held in Ohakune to celebrate the start of the ski season as well as the area's most famous root vegetable. The festival will feature many events but among them will be a carrot art exhibition, where entrants can paint, sculpt or any way they choose, depict carrots. They can even use the real thing. There will be a guess-the-number of carrots, a carrot eating competition, a carrot

tossing derby to name some events. Also, there is a stretcher race planned, a waiter-waitress race, ski boot race, street rollerblade race. There 's a competition to catch the biggest fresh water crayfish. A professional clown will be juggling, and making balloon creatures; sports clubs and other organisations will display their activities; the Army will show off an armoured division; and the Anti-Skid car will be on display. Watch next week's Bulletin to find out more.
