Waimarino won't close says area health board

It was a case of 'no news is good news' for the Waimarino Health Centre last week when the Manawatu Area Health Board released its latest strategic planning document. Waimarino was conspicuous by its absence from a list: of cut services and closed wards and hospitals through the

board's area. But the Nurses Association believed differently when they included Waimarino on a list of several small hospitals that they believed health boards would soon close. MWAHB commissioner Maurice Sexton said in a statement on Friday however, that the Nurses had got it wrong.

"I want to clear up any misunderstanding that a list of this nature might have caused," he said. "The Manawatu Wanganui Area Health Board has no plans to make any changes to the services provided at the Waimarino Hospital (Waimarino Health Centre)."
