Raetihi raises cash for rescue cutters

The response to the appeal for RS 3000 escape claws for the Raetihi fire brigade run by the Rotary Club last week was successful On Wednesday night 17 June members of the Raetihi, Ohakune rotary club spent the evening phoning residents of Raetihi asking for pledges for donations to help buy the cutters, which can be operated by one person without the need for an external power pack. The claws operate like hydraulic car jacks to provide the power to cut through car body parts. Organiser of the phone campaign, Godfrey Harvey, said he was confident they had raised sufficient money to buy the "Escape Claws".
