"This'll get a rise out of the boss!"
It was all hands on deck last week to work on the big expansion into the new space at Ohakune New World. And when that many people get together on ! a project there is bound to be the odd "Mintie moment" One was at about 4.30am Thursday moming, when Jeff Drayton and John Porter, local flooring contractors, were laying the vinyl. Jeff was welding joints with a blowtorch, when he decided to ask for a pay rise from the boss (so the story goes). He blew it when he nearly blew up his boss, who was ; holding a white spirits-soaked rag which Molotoved j instantly. A dangerous situation indeed and not to be tried at home - pay rise or no pay rise! (these men are experts!). Actually Jeff worked extra hard to earn his keep I one other time, on a job out at Winstones. He'd I headed to the mill to lay lino in a control room, but I picked the wrong one! The one he was supposed to do was the next floor up, so we're told. I
