Trot off turn on
• Having just heard on the radio that a group called "aged concem" are worried about pensioners putting themselves in a dangerous situation by trying to conserve power by doing away with necessary heating they are putting their lives at risk, prompted me to put pen to paper and point out a few unfortunate facts. One being that recently while the Canterbury people in a very cold period achieved remarkable savings Night Trots were held at Canterbury Park. In an article in a northern paper a few days ago the Auckland Trotting Club stated that of its pending five night meetings one would be changed to daytime as its contribution to the present crisis. "Whoopde doo". Surely you would think that if it was possible for
one all dates could be changed to daytime. The reason this is not done is so as not to clash with another meeting at another code running during the day. Again the greed for the punters dollar ignoring completely the electricity shortage crisis. So I say to you elderly out there although your efforts are appreciated start thinking of yourselves as these racing clubs are doing. My advice would be: That though you've done your best. It's up to all the rest Why your the one who suffers For these electricorp duffers So put the heater on full bore Whip on all your electric lights Put the blanket on no 3 and have some lovely nights. B J "Sam" McCarthy.
