SCALES
The Waiouru Police Station is now back to full strength after the last , two months where leave commitments etc, have left the station with only one officer on duty at any
one time. Thanks for your patience and co-op-eration. This happens when you only have a small station. • Welcome to our new Traffic Officer (soon to be Constable) Peter
Thomas. Peter replaces Mike Lenihan and has transferred from Wanganui. He will go to the Police College to be cross trained from, the TSS to the Police. The TSS/Police merger occurs on 1 July and by mid August Peter should have completed the course to become a sworn Police Officer. This means that Waiouru will now have 3 sworn Police Staff, which can only be of benefit to the community. This does not mean that Road Safety and Traffic duties will fall by the way, effectively it means that Peter Thomas will continue the role he is doing now except he will be a Police Officer and Pat Tasker and myself will also undergo cross -training to bring us up to par with TSS duties. • There have been several accidents over the past couple of weeks. Luckily they have not been too serious and injuries have been minor. Still there is a need to take even more care now that the winter and the icy roads are upon us. • Last Friday, Between midnight and six in the moming, someone damaged one of the petrol
bowsers at the BP Service Station, this was obviously done by someone putting in the boot. Quite a bit of damage was done. There were a lot of people around that night and I believe that someone either saw it happen or knows about it. Any information would be appreciated, confidentially if you wish. • For the last week we have been holding onto a grey/green expensive mountain bike. This was found in the township. Call in if it is yours. • Recent arrests have included two juveniles, who had absconded from Social Welfare homes. One from Taumarunui and
one from Tokoroa. Quite often we see these youngsters trying to hitch hike along the Desert Road, if you see any young people trying to hitch hike, or you believe that something is not right, it pays to let us know. More often than not they are kids who have run away from home, or are in some trouble. A 24 year old local man was also arrested last week for rape and a 22 year old man was arrested for disqualified driving and possession of cannabis. Another person is facing prosecution for a drink driving charge.
