Bridge

Eighteen people turned out for bridge on Wednesday 20 May and they played a total of twenty boards. The top score in the north/south direction was 57.52% and this gave Ron Frew and Brian Eades first place. Second place went to Ron Martin and Heather Cranston with a score of 52.80%. The east/west competition was won by Colin and Bev Cox with a score of 59.63%, just narrowly beating Rita Kaiwhare and Sarah Hamlin with 58.69%. At the end of play on Wednesday 27 May Ron Frew and Brian Eades were in first place with 63.75% and Colin and Bev Cox were in second place with 61.88%. Handicapping however saw these placings reversed with Colin and Bev scoring 63.18% and Ron and Brian finishing up with 57.10%. Third place at the end of play was scored by two pairs each with 56.88%. But after handicapping John Eades and Fr Bernie Vella gained third place with 56.78% while Les Burns and Tracy Ennis were relegated to fourth place with a final score of 54.48%. Rita Kaiwhare and Betty Hammond scored fifth place with 54.05%. The evening 's play consisted of 22 boards played in a Howell movement with each pair playing a maximum of 20 boards.
