The Automobile Association is well known for its tests of cars and trucks, but it's rare for them to check over a tank! Army public relations recently approached the AA's Directions magazine to run an article to enlighten their readers on some army vehicles, so Gary Burkett and Rob McMillan were in Waiouru last week to look over the Scorpion CUR(T) and the V8 Landrover. Gary Burkett, AA's Advisory Engineer and Rob McMillan, the Deputy Editor spent two days examining the two vehicles. The two visitors were briefed on the School of Armour and were familiarised with the Scorpion Tank, covering aspects on driver and crew training and the technical and performance specifications. W02 Alan Hoffman explained transmission, the technical and the weapon aspects of the Scorpion Tank. They were introduced to the School of Transport and Catering and were briefed on the roles and courses conducted. They were familiarised with the technical and performance specifications of the V8 Landrover. The second day was spent road testing both vehicles. 2nd Lt Jason Walbridge, the Liaison Officer, said they looked at road, track and cross country capabilities, speeds of the vehicles, fuel efficiency, climbing capabilities, fording and all cross country aspects for each vehicle. Gary Burkett, the advisory engineer said he enjoyed working with the vehicles, this being a new experience for him, never having had any-
thing to do with army vehicles before. His present job involves the testing of commercial
vehicles. Rob McMillan said he particularly enjoyed the cross country circuit. He
said he had some experience many years ago with army vehicles during his school cadet days.
