Included in this programme are parts of the Whanganui National Park, plus scenic reserves and conservation stewardship lands in the Kirkau/Te Maire, Retaruke/Kaitieke and Mangatiti/Ruatiti areas. Hunting will concentrate on goat populations. However any domestic stock encountered in these areas after 1/6/92 may be destroyed, sold or otherwise disposed of as per Section 96 (2) Reserves Act, Section 36 (3) Conservation Act and Section 62 (3) National Parks Act.
