Pony club
There was a good attendance at the Ohakune Pony Club Branch AGM on Thursday evening where the Presidents, Head Instructor's and Treasurer's reports were all accepted. It was decided subscriptions would have to rise to $35 for the first member of a family, and $6 for any further members (which remains the same). New equipment last season put a strain on resourqps and further items were needed, and subs had remained the same for four years. All officers were reelected unopposed and are: patron Ian Roke, president Peter Richards, secretary/treasurer Eileen Gotlieb, publicity Maureen Warren, head instructor Evelyn Cooper, instructors Maureen Warren, Debbie Hill, Heather Cooper; trustees Eileen Gotlieb, Jill Evans, Peter Richards; delegates to Waimarino Pony Club meetings Evelyn Cooper, Eileen Gotlieb, Debbie Hill; delegates to King Coum try meetings Evelyn Cooper, Jill Evans, Ann Roke. The evening concluded with a supper. Head instructor's report "Seventeen rallies including three unmounted, and a membership of 16 riders with an average attendance of 10 throughout the season, with normally 3 instructors resulted in a very good year. "I felt the standard of grooming and gear was a little low but this improves with experience and dedication." "Parent help has been mixed with excellent help from some and other s not turning up even if rostered on. This leaves more work for those attending and often a loss of instruction time. A big thank you to those who have helped and to the Warrens for the use of their farm. Without this facility, despite negotiating the appalling road and grass verge conditions to reach it, it would indeed be a poor Pony Club, so we are very grateful, thank you very much Ted and Maureen." "The number of riders attending outside events has been a little lower this year although senior riders have competed fairly regularly. Natasha Richards did the show jumping circuit and Shelly Gotlieb,
Fiona Evans, Melanie Mitchell and Victoria Duigan and I competed at a number of ODE's. The local competitions have been attended by most members. A few holiday rides were arranged as some of the boys in particular enjoy this type of riding. I would like to see the building of a few more cross country jumps and the building/purchase of a show jumping wall. The jumps built by Peter and Mark last year have been used and much appreciated, thank you." "Once again Kaitieke Pony Club invited our riders to a camp on January. I would like our branch to hold a camp next year but it would depend on adequate parental help." "Amy-Cherie Woon and Hone Brausch gained their 'D' certificates and 2 others will be sitting their 'C' certificates shortly." Presentations at the Clubs prize giving: Attendance; V Duigan, certificate of merit H Brausch, grooming and gear 14yrs and over M Mitchell, 13yrs and under V Duigan, most improved rider senior, D Workman, junior, H Brausch, certificates of merit, R Hill and C Cooper, horsemanship senior M Mitchell, junior S Gotlieb, certificate of merit A C Woon, most promising rider M Mitchell, 'D' certificates Amy-Cherie Woon and Hone Brausch, riding improvement certificate of merit A Fetzer. "In December members ran a successful gymkhana for adult riders. Lastly thank you to our instructors Maureen Warren, Debbie Hill and Heather Cooper, our secretary Eileen Gotlieb and president Peter Richards, without whose help this branch could not function and to our enthusiastic members who make it all worth while." "Fiona Evans represented us at Timberlands, the zone dressage champs and the horse trials champs and Natasha Richards competed at the NI show jumping event at Cambridge. This was the first time the Club was represented at Cambridge and valuable experience was gained by competitors and the manager."
