A crafty business
A craft shop appropriately named 'Virtuosity - The
Creative Hands', opened for business recently in Ohakune.
Nestled at the far end of Ohakune's BNZ shopping block, the tiny
shop is crammed to capacity with a huge range of quality homecrafts. Leather boots, crystals, pottery, handdipped candles and applique creations are just some of the goods on sale. The craft shop is the brainchild of artisans Sam and Verona and an idea that took form after a South Island sojourn. "We had a look in some of the craft shops down there and said 'we could do that'", said Sam. Candles made by Sam feature in the line-up of crafts on sale. The concept evolved after much phone and public relations work to establish contacts. The response by Waimarino craftspeople bringing in goods to sell on behalf has been good , according to the women, who are aiming to bring to Ohakune quality handcrafts at non-city prices.
