Raetihi garden report

BY

RIC

The Raetihi garden club has had a full year with guest speakers at each of its monthly meetings. The March meeting was held at the home of Bev Kerr and Ian Harrison and guest speaker was Barbara Brown talking on dahalia exhibiting. "Wandering around this garden was a delight, it has had a tremendous amount of work and tender loving care put into it," said one member speaking about their garden. The April meeting was held at the home of Joy and Bernard Cox and Dawn Donaldson demonstrated the making of table arrangements using autumn foliage. She used different coloured and shaped leaves and adding the odd flower to finish off. A few of the members

then tried their hand and; were pleasantly surprised with their end result. A stroll around Joy and Bernard's new garden followed. Although this garden is relatively new, the Cox's have already done a lot of work. Guest speakers have included John and Annette Schrier, on their trip to Holland; and Pam Collier, from 'Pam's Flower Works' at Titoki Point. Pam renovated an old shed into 'a cascade

of colour'. All her goods are locally made. The club made a trip to Lyn Chittock's family garden at Mataroa, which is a private garden that all the family help with. Bea Barnes gave a talk on shrubs that grow well in our area, covering height, colour and ground cover. The garden club expressed thanks to those who have welcomed them into their homes and gardens

through the year; also the guest speakers who helped to make the meetings interesting. The garden club meets once a month and men and women are welcome. The May meeting is the annual general meeting and will be held at Mrs A Seifert' home, Ohura Road at Ilam. Following the meeting there will be a pot luck lunch and guest speaker.
