Introducing Waiouru's new doctor

Doctor John Fountain is the Waiouru Army Hospital's new physician. Dr Fountain replaces Doctor Stu Wilson who has been posted to Iraq. John served with the Territorial force for six years, joining in 1984 in Dunedin. In 1988 he finished his medical degree and spent two years as a house surgeon in Northland Base Hospital. He was approached to fill in for a medical officer who went to the Gulf War, and he then joined the Regular Force. He was initially attached to the Army's 1st Medical

Support Team (MST) in Burnham, and as a result of the Army restructure, 1 MST was transferred to Linton. After working in Linton for a few weeks Dr Fountain went to Iraq for two months. "Medical teams usually are posted to Iraq for six months, but due to a two month hazardous programme, more medical staff were needed at that time." He said so far he's enjoying Waiouru. "It's a good job, good to have the responsibility of a sole charge position with my own hospital, but on the other hand, its very, very, busy."
