Turoa hands over golf course & tennis courts
Turoa has handed over the keys to the Turoa Alpine Village golf course and tennis courts to a local property management firm. Alpine Property Management, run by Dale Knapp, Murray Macneil and John Purcell has taken on the lease of the sports facilities. Turoa Ski Resort Limited had offered them for sale to the Ruapehu District Council for one dollar, but the council declined. "When the council turned down the offer,
on our own initiative we approached Turoa and made an offer to lease the course and courts," said Dale. "We saw it as an opportunity to offer our chalet owners and renting customers a really good service in the Village." "It's very important to have alternative activities available for people when they come to stay." Dale said they would be charging green fees and fees to use the courts to cover maintenance and other costs. She said
it had taken Murray and John two full weeks to bring the course up to scratch, and to weed around the courts and repair the fence. It was too late in the season to do any major maintenance on the greens, said Dale, so they will be getting to that chore next summer. The golf course will be run on a honesty box system for green fees and a key system for the courts. They will be hiring out tennis racquets and golf clubs from their Sports Country store.
