Water fun for juniors

BYJOHOWIE Waiouru School's junior department held a swimming sports event last Thursday. This was the first time in some years that an organised swimming sports day has been co-ordinated for the juniors. A full programme was organised and each class was divided into groups of ten and each group attempted five water activities. Activities included a walking race, push-a-ball-with-nose race, ball and spoon race, a flutterboard race and a game of ring-a-ring-a-roses. An addi-

tional activity for the Std 1 class was getting dressed in the water. Due to a time limit, some activities were not able to be attempted. Teachers Tracey Herewini and Gillian Wasley constructed the swimming programme. Tracey said the main aim was for the children to participate, have fun and gain water confidence. Every child was presented with a participation certificate and a swimming behaviour and manners award to include children who couldn't participate for medical or other reasons.
