Waiouru Police File

SCALES
It was a sad day last Tuesday morning when I attended to the death of Jimmy Trotter. Jimmy was Waiouru, and will be sadly missed by all the community. The Police extend their sympathy to all who knew him. Tourist lose out in crash Police attended two accidents over the past couple of weeks. Both accidents were non injuries. In one accident a south-bound car hit a large stag just north of Waiouru, writing off the vehicle. In the other accident a north-bound vehicle was hit in the rear by another north-bound yehicle. The vehicle hit was owned by two tourists from Israel. Their vehicle was written off but fortunately no one was hurt. What was of concern though is that the driver of the other vehicle supplied the couple with a false name before driving off prior to Police arrival. The tourists had bought the vehicle for their travels and were going to sell it and use the money to travel around Australia. Due to
the other person's actions, the tourists' New Zealand holiday was ruined. They were uninsured. If you are involved in an accident and fail to supply your correct details to a traffic officer, police constable or any other person concerned, you commit an offence and can be arrested. This also highlights the necessity of taking out motor vehicle insurance. The two Israelis were grateful for the assistance offered to them by Stu Casely at Shell, and the Oasis Hotel for looking after them and providing services at a much reduced rate. Railway station trashed Last Friday night, about 5.30 - 6pm, someone tried to get into the milk depot by the railway station. Their attempts failed but they did cause some minor damage. Also about this time, someone tried their best to wreck the Waiouru railway station. They broke just about all the windows, broke into all the offices, wreaking havoc, and interfering with emergency equip-
ment in the station. These vandals also do not know about personal hygiene, as they thought it would be good laugh to defecate everywhere. It is believed that these are the same offenders who tried to get into the milk depot. This happened early in the evening and wasn't dark. I would certainly like to catch these peo-
ple and if any one heard or saw people hanging around the area at this time, I would like to hear from you. Bike found Handed into the station on Sunday morning was a Ace High 10-speed push bike that was found in bushes by the army museum. If it is yours, come in and collect it. Easter is iust about
upon us, and for those who intend taking holidays, please ensure that your property is secure, your pets are looked after and that you let a neighbour know that you will be away. Traffic is always heavy at this time of year, so take care on the roads and let's see everyone back safe and sound. Have a well deserved Easter break and a safe week.
