Playcentre opens the doors

BY

RIC

Raetihi Playcentre was pleased with the response to their open day, held last Thursday. As well as new mothers, the visitors included the Mayor, Garrick Workman,' early childhood worker Gail Imhoff and patron Keitha Journeaux. A video called "Playcentre - Unique Experience" was shown throughout the morning. New parents starting at playcentre can view this video at any time. The roll is made up of 51 children from 35 families. Christine Chittock, who is a trained Kindergarten teacher, is the supervisor and is helped by Linda Keith, who is a trained playcentre supervisor who has also completed early childhood training. Linda is a volunteer at the centre, working with

four-year old children at developing skills such as using a pen, recognition of their name, remembering songs and social skills in preparation for school. The inside of the playcentre has been brought up to the standards required by New Zealand Standards 5828. The outside playground is now being worked on with the surface of the ground under the equipment being covered with plastic matting. The Lions club has helped with much of the outside work.
