Board wants land cash kept
Proceeds from the sale of Council property should be reinvested in the same wards. This is the message from the Waimarino Community Board to the Ruapehu District Council after discussion at
last week's monthly board meeting in Ohakune. The board received a report by Council's Forestry and Employment working party, detailing recent inspections of council properties and deliberations on
their future use. Of 201 properties, seven have since been sold with numerous other properties currently under negotiation. Member Bill Peach expressed surprise at the large number of proper-
ties owned by the Ruapehu District Council. Mayor Garrick Workman said "one or two" significant saies had seen finance building up. Funds from the sale of property should be spent in the areas of highest priority, he said, while at the same time trying to combat
the North-South split in the district that invariably occurred in these instances. The board voted to recommend to Council that proceeds from saies be returned to the respective wards, to be used on projects that have merit.
