Council to try for better land price
An Ohakune councilowned section is to be put up for tender, rather than be sold for $10,000. An offer of $10,000 was received by the council for the 1012m2 section at 5 Arawa Street, but southern ward councillors said the community board was aware of four people who were interested in the section. The government valuation on the section was $17,500, the council heard. The council heard that most land saies in Ohakune in the last 12 months were below government valuation. A cross-lease section in Park Avenue was sold for one third of $10,000; a Willow Lane section of 677m2 sold for $7500 (government valuation $14,000); a Willow Lane section of 680m2 sold for $7000 (gv
$9000); a Willow Lane section of 529m2 sold for $6500 (gv $11,000); a Willow Lane section of 675m2 sold for $12,000 (gv $16,000); a Willow Lane section of 1024m2 sold for $19,000 (gv $13,000); a Tawhero Road section of 2030m2 sold for $17,500 (gv $19,000); Goldfinch Street section of 1000m2 sold for $14,000 (gv $17,500); and a Park Avenue section, 1000m2 sold for $12,000 (gv $21,500). Councillor Bill Peach said the Willow Lane sections were subject to a forced sale so should not be taken into account. He said there was new optimism in the Ohakune property market. The council was told the sign on the Arawa section had been up for three months and the offer received was the first interest shown.
