Regional Council in "sound financial shape"

Manawatu Wanganui Regional Council is in sound financial shape, Ruapehu District councillors were told last Friday. Rates for the MWRC would not increase for the 1992-93 year they were told. More money would be spent on soil conservation subsidies, on pest control with a major increase in pest control activity, said MWRC chairman Don Middleton. He said spending on noxious plants control would be up slightly. The council and MWRC representatives discussed the possibility of a joint venture, possibly a taskforce green scheme, for a combined noxious plants control - forestry development project. The representatives said they would look into setting up such schemes, with RDC help.
