Ambulance trips to cost

From tomorrow an emergency trip in an ambulance will cost $45. The transfer of patients between hospitals and the use of ambulances for outpatient transport where appropriate will continue to be paid for by the area health board. The board says its new fee is still one of the lowest in the country. The exemptions under the Government's new User Pays Health System do not apply to the part-charge. "The services of the Board are partly dependent on the revenue the Board can itself generate, and the Board has a responsibility to raise as much revenue as it reasonably can," said Jeff Small, assistant general manager of commercial services.
