Crime wave returns

Waimarino's crime wave has returned, after a lull of a few months. Police report an alarming number of burglaries in the area over the past few weeks. A ski lodge in Miro Park was burgled some time in March and a number of electrical items and furniture, including a stove, microwave oven, clothes drier and three lounge suites stolen. Total value was about $4000. A vacant ski house in Raetihi was burgled last week and $1000 worth of household items, including blankets and duvets taken. Five ski chalets in Mangawhero Terrace had windows smashed recently. Police have yet to find out what was taken. Two Ti Kouka Place properties were broken into, but nothing was taken. Police are still waiting to hear what was taken when a Conway Street chalet was burgled. Between 9 and 17 March a ski chalet at Southridge was broken into and a bed, TV, microwave and lawn mower taken. Between 14-16 March a Raetihi Road property was burgled and a Suzuki 250 4 wheel bike stolen. A ski club in Ohakune was found on 14 March to have been burgled. A stereo and microwave was taken. A property in Miro Park was burgled 10-13 March and a stove, colour TV and bed taken. Six Turoa Village chalets were burgled 5-12 March and four stoves, two fridges, a dishwasher and two TVs taken as well as bedding.
