spect for the stock, and has to be fit and healthy." He said they have to train hard and plan their year out well to fit in the necessary number of events. To get rodeo goers in the mood, and for a fun night, the Waimarino Cosmopolitan Club will have the mechanical bucking bull turned on Friday night at ^ihe club. iThe famous annual

Raetihi Rodeo Hoe Down is on again also, in the Waimarino Club Saturday night (tickets available from the Rodeo secretary, on Saturday). "That's always a good time - when club members, the cowboys and the locals can get together." Another get-together, for a different set, is the Teddy Bear's Picnic which is being organised by the

Raetihi Plunket (see advertisement in the Classifieds). Novelty events are always crowd pleasers and included in the programme are steer undecorating for adults and sheep undecorating for the kids. These two events are limited to 20 competitors each. The calf ride for the youngsters is an early start, with some regular rodeo kids competing at many rodeos, leading up to the nationals, where the top five or six are chosen. Break-away roping is a new novelty event also included in this year's programme. All this entertainment calls for refreshment and this year the Raetihi School PTA will again be providing food and drink for all comers. The Waimarino Rodeo Club would like to thank the sponsors of the rodeo, the stock contractors, carriers, graziers and local farmers who have lent stock. All of these people make the organisation of the rodeo possible.
