Raetihi scouts revival soon?

TTie 1st Raetihi Scout and Cub group is seeking leaders and assistant leaders, and is anxious to hear of boys interested in attending either group. This group has been unofficial recess for almost three years, when the community was unable to provide a leader. The Raetihi group has maintained a 'caretaker* committee, hoping the group would again become active in Raetihi. "We feel the younger members of this community would benefit immensely from such a programme, as many others have before them. We are reluctant to go onto official recess - but we have kept our options open long enough," said group
spokesperson Shirley McDonough. Scouts has recently revamped its programme. Cubs are aged 7-11 years while Scouts are II-I4I/2 years. The Scout Den in Queen Street is currently having pre-paint repairs done, including new spouting. Grants previously obtained from the Hillary Commission and Trust Bank will be used for this purpose. The group has adequate camping equipment and the only funds required would be those for annual affiliation fees and national programme expenses. The next Scout jamboree will be held in January 1993 at Trentham which would require fundraising for those wishing to attend. Turn page 2
Scouts From page 1 The Raetihi group AGM will be held in March, when it is hoped that a new group of enthusiastic parents and guardians will share the responsibility of providing fun learning opportunities for the younger members of the community, thus avoiding official recess of the group. People interested are asked to contact Shirley McDonough, 385-4488 or Jim Bennett 385-4684.
