"Will you buy my Pulp"

There is not much point in producing pulp if no-one wants to buy it, and with the difficult pulp market, people do not queue up at the Karioi door. So a very important part of the Winstones process is finding markets for it, and

they have an effective marketing department for this. "We have at least one person out marketing our product every day of the year, that's 365 travelling days," said mill manager Dave Anderson.

This travelling, mostly through Asia, is shared among four people. Winstones competes on service, providing top quality pulp with top technical support, regular supply backed up by quality service.

Karioi pulp goes to markets in Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Hong Kong, China, the Phillipines, Taiwan, Korea and Japan. It is used to make newsprint, tissue, paperboard, and printing and writing

paper. All the mill's pulp is made to order, all tailored to the buyer's different requirements. Because Winstones has been able to market its product effectively, the mill's production hasn't slowed

down since 1983. It produces pulp 24 hours a day, seven days a week and now, 365 days a year. "We've had a full order book since 1983, which is unique and remarkable in the mechanical pulp industry," said Dave.
