No Ohura Rd
Ohura Road should become Orautoha Road, the Waimarino Community Board has decided. A survey of people who live in the area brought up mixed views, with some favouring a change to Ruatiti Road, some choosing Orautoha Road and some opting for the status quo. The council is obliged to change the narne of the road to save confusion with the road in the township of Ohura. Member John Comp-
ton produced a 1921 map which showed the road as being Raetihi-Ohura Road for a distance, then becoming Orautoha Road. The name change has to be advertised and members of the public have a right to object, the board heard. 'The intention was to carry the road through to Ohura. That will never happen now," said chairman Colin Webb. "We've just thrown some .history out," he said.
