The Chief of General Staff (CGS) Major General Bruce Meldrum awarded the CGS Commendation to Major Nigel Gattsche on 11 February
His Citation reads "Major Nigel Kevin Gattsche enlisted into the New Zealand Army in January 1974 as a Regular Force Cadet. In July 1980 he graduated from the Officer Cadet School, Portsea, Aus-
tralia as a Second Lieutenant in the Corps of Royal New Zealand Engineers. "Major Gattsche, a hcflder of a New Zealand Certificate of Draughting, was well suited to the duties given to him in Field Engineer Units. Therefore, when appointed the assistant project officer for Operation Kupe in June 1987, it was to utilize the skills and experience gained from regimental and staff appointments in the Army. He was able to provide valuable support and advice to Major Lang, the project officer for Operation Kupe. "In January 1988 Major Gattsche was appointed the Works Officer for Linton Camp. In
this position he was responsible for the overall integration of project construction into the Camp itself during the busy period of building construction. His management of Linton Camp Works activities complemented and assisted the main project. The resulting camp is a modern base that provides the 1st Battalion and supporting elements with every possible facility.. "Major Gattsche is awarded the Chief of General Staff 's Commendation for his outstanding support to Operation Kupe as the Works Officer of Linton Camp during the period January 1988 to November 1989.
