New Priest for Waiouru Father Gryschow. By Jo howie Father David Gruschow is Waiouru's new catholic priest. The town's catholic parish has been without a priest for two years, although Ohakune and Taihape priests have assisted with church services. Father Gruschow has come from the Golden Bay region where he worked for three years. As well as being the parish priest there he also taught full time at secondary school. Before he became a priest he spent 10 years teaching as a Marist brother. After training to be a priest Father Gruschow's first assignment was to a Wellington parish as well as being the Police College chaplain. He said he can see some similarities between police and army life. Later he taught at Hato Petora St Paul's Maori Boys College. There he had a taste of military life as a school cadet officer. Father Gruschow said he looks forward to the range of activities which the Army has to offer. Father Gruschow's Golden Bay parish has been taken over by Burnham Camp's outgoing priest Father Julian Wagg. Father Wagg leaves after having served eight years in the Army, latterly as the principal chaplain (Army).
