The old Style
A As an old borough labourer of the Ohakune council in the late 20's, our work staff was four. There was a foreman, a second in command, a water man and I. My work started at 7.30 cleaning toilets if not done, or on the rubbish pick-up with the foreman and second in command as driver and myself. We sometimes finished at lunch time, then I had to mow Jubilee Park and the Motor Camp which I had to do on foot. At 3.30 I checked toilets till 4pm - end of day. The township was our main job, rubbish, water tables, lawns. Toilets were my pride. I always tried to keep it clean inside and outside. Today it is the most neglected part of our once proud town. How can this council let this be? I used to mow all road side berms froni town to the Junction, also railway sidings all on foot. Today there are mowers everywhere, running around on council runabouts. Bring back the old style. "Only 72 "
