Showjumpers compete
Three Waimarino Pony Club riders recently represented their club at the AGC Finance Show Jumping Championships at Cambridge. It was the seventh year the championships had been held but the first time Waimarino had sent a team. Teams could consist of six members, two members in three age groups. However, the Waimarino team consisted of Cindy Langdon - 17years and under 21, Vicky Pearson and Natasha Richards, both in the 14years and under
17years age group, with no competitors in the 13years and under group. Forty teams in total competed, including a team from Korea, with the majority of teams having six members, giving a total of 80 riders in each class. With the three rings running simultaneously, they competed in five classes each over two days. The three Waimarino riders went through to a jump-off, with Cindy gaining 5 th place in her third event. Vicky and Natasha were unlucky in
their jump-off rounds having a rail down each. Natasha and Vicky were just out of the placings in the final event, a jigsaw jump where they both rode together, each jumping six jumps in a course of 12 jumps, against the clock. The whole team including parents, manager and grooms were billeted and found the championships a very worthwhile experience. Bay of Islands were the eventual winners, the fourth time they have won the event.
