Obituary Derek Beisly

Mr Derek Beisly, a former Ruapehu College teacher, was killed in a climbing accident on Mt Cook on Monday 6 January. Mr Beisly and his family had a considerable involvement in the local community during the time they Iived in Ohakune. Many groups, such as the Cubs and Scouts and their church, involved most of the family. As a teacher, Mr Beisly took a special interest in the College Transition Programme and many students benefited from his personal involvement. It was his caring and considerate nature that staff and students will remember most. With his considerable skills in kayaking, tramping and climbing Mr Beisly was a valued contributor to the College Outdoor Education programme. He was also involved in the Search and Rescue Organisation, being part of many exercises and searches in his time here. Mr Beisly continued his teaching career in Paeroa. Mr Beisly is survived by his wife Doris and five children. To assist the family a Trust fund has been set up at Trustbank Waikato (Paeroa branch).
