Commission to decide boards' futures

Whether Ruapehu District' s four community boards should be scrapped or not is to be considered by the Local Government Commission next month. The Commission is to meet with the Ruapehu District Council and the four community boards: Waiouru, Waimarino, Ohura and National Park, in Taumarunui on Tuesday 11 February, starting at 10.30am, to discuss the matter. The council decided to scrap the boards as it felt they were no longer necessary or cost effective. The community boards disagree, however, and so the Commission has been asked to consider the matter. "The commission's determination is necessary because the affected community boards have not agreed to the proposed abolition," said Commission chief exec-

utive officer Bill Hudson. The meeting in Taumarunui is open to the public.
