Meet Waiouru doctor...
When Doctor Greig Russell was a locum in Waiouru during August and September last year, he and his family fell in love with the Army Camp. So when Dr John Dickson resigned unexpectedly, Greig jumped at the chance to be Waiouru civilian doctor. His ambition while in Waiouru is to deliver a better service to the people and to get spirit back into the practise. Greig took over the civilian surgery on 21 January and made his
presence felt immcdiately with the dropping of patient fees and extending surgery hours. "We prepared a budget for the practise and decided that we could run smoothly with the dropping of patient fees. We also plan to update equipment and do regular staff training so that gradually the services provided will increase." Already Greig has resumed Army sessions at the hospital, and Dr Diane Whiting will be running a women's clinic every Wednesday afternoon, which will include IUD fitting, natural family planning and attending to women's problems. Plans are also in the pipeline for a 'lumps and bumps' clinic, where removal of warts, moles and minor skin cancers will take place. Greig's qualifications include a Bachelor of Science in Bio-chemistry, when he graduated and won a se-
nior scholarship. He spent two years in Otago, then completed a Bachelor of Medical Science in the use of computers in medicine. He also gained a medical degree, winning prizes in surgery and psychia-
try. Then he became a house surgeon in Wellington, also completing three years as a registrar of psychiatry, finally' coming to Waiouru, where he plans to stay for three years.
