Burrows class calls on RF Parade

By

Howie

Ex Regular Force Cadets from Burrows Class 1974 paraded in numbers last December during the final graduation parade of the Regular Force Cadets. The Cadet School has been suspended indefinitely. "It was an opportunity to meet up with old class mates. We were also demonstrating our commitment and belief in the RF Cadet School scheme," said ex-cadet, Major Bob Easton. "The fact that the primary aim of RF Cadet School was to provide the army with senior non commissioned officers (NCO'S) is demonstrated in the Burrows Class. Forty seven from the Class are still serving, four of these are officers, and the majority of the remainder are warrant officers and senior NCO's." The organiser for the reunion was WO 1 Dick Wilson, and it was the first time for many in Burrows Class to meet as a group. They were accommodated in the Sergeants' Mess where the ex-cadets reminisced their Cadet School days

12 years ago. Burrows Class was the last class to accept 15year old males into the School. The RF Cadets were accepted to complete up to three years of training, depending on their age. These young men sat School Certificate and University Entrance, learnt military instruction and trade training. "The graduate had a good solid foundation in soldiering skills and trained as instructors. "We received very good training that was interesting, covering a variety of subjects. We had instructors who were good role models, and discipline was hard.

Most importantly we had great comradeship," Major Easton said. During the final parade on 12 December last year, the Burrows Class sat as a group. Major Easton said many senior officers and WO's who were present indicated that the presence of the Burrows Class demonstrated the value of the RF Cadet School scheme. A Burrows Class reunion is planned for November - December, 1993 For more details and suggestions please contact Major Easton, Waiouru, Ex. 7371, WOl, Wixon, Waiouru, ex 7615, or Captain Kerr, Waiouru, ex.7391.
